Megan Falley is a writer who spends most of her time in New York, competing in poetry slams against male poets twice her age and size. She is President and competing member of the SUNY New Paltz slam team, which is currently ranked #1 in New York and Canada and 6th in the nation. Her leadership was instrumental in the creation of the world's second largest collegiate poetry competition, the Wade-Lewis Poetry Slam Invitational, and was awarded "best female poet" at the competition in 2010. She is a Nuyorican and Urbana Slam semi-finalist, an Intangible Slam Grand Slam Finalist, and has featured at The Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Wild Project Theatre and the Knitting Factory. She has opened for nationally renown poets such as Mike McGee, Carlos Andres Gomez, and Jeffrey McDaniel. Beyond performing, Megan has taught spoken word to juniors and seniors in Valley Stream South High School and to freshman composition classes at SUNY New Paltz. Her writing has appeared in Static and Other Lungless Things, published by Penmanship books, and The Stones Throw Review. The Creative Writing Department at SUNY New Paltz chose her as recipient for the Tomaselli Award in Poetry for graduating seniors. She is a professional blogger for the SUNY study abroad program, and her poetry has reached audiences as far away as New Zealand. She really enjoys the movie Harold & Maude and her chihuahua named Taco.
